Modular construction is enjoying a renaissance. Even though it’s been around since the early 1900s, advanced technology has made it more cost-efficient, reduced construction time, and added to the quality and customization possibilities for your home. The most popular type of modular addition is attached to the side of a home to create either a separate living unit, such as an in-law apartment, or additional rooms, such as a new kitchen, dining room, and great room.

QUALITY: The addition is built in a climate-controlled factory and delivered to the home-site nearly completed with only hook-ups remaining.

COST: About 20-30% of the cost of materials end up in the dumpster at traditional sites because of waste. That’s not the case with modular additions. In fact, overall savings can be up to 50% compared original on-site construction.

TIME: Most additions take four months or longer. With modular additions, once design and permitting are done, it takes as little as four to six weeks to complete the addition. Which means much less disruption while various workers are in and out, fabricating and installing original construction.

CUSTOMIZATION: Modular does not mean cookie-cutter. While most manufacturers have a portfolio of home plans to choose from, computer-assisted design (CAD) allows limitless design and customization possibilities.

It’s important when considering a modular addition to work with a General Contractor who has experience in this specialized field. Chesapeake Energy Homes has installed many modular additions in our area and can guide you through every step of the process.
